I am not going to write about happiness like it is something you can buy in a can at your local supermarket or bodega, because well, it is not. For me, to be happy is to not have anything to complain about, to realize you have everything you want, and everything that you need. I know this is not an easy issue to talk, write, or advise about, but I decided to write about it because I feel it is important. It might take days, weeks, months or years to be where you want to be in life, but to not stress about getting there is what happiness is about. The world can be a nasty place, and that is why we were not designed to be happy forever. Although my philosophy of life contradicts what happiness is supposed to be about, I consider myself a happy person.
More than focusing on defining happiness, we need to focus on feeling it. Just like love, happiness have different forms, and ways to show it self in our lives. Whenever I am not feeling happy, I try to find the reason or the problem that is making me unhappy,. and once I get to the root of the problem, I eliminate it, sometimes it takes time to eliminate the issues, but once found, once I recognize that something is not making me happy I set up a system in place to tackle the issue and to root it out of my life.
Some of the things that I practice that contributes to my happiness are:
-Self awareness, knowing my surroundings and recognizing where I am, and where do I want to be.
-Not comparing myself to anyone, and correcting people when they are comparing themselves to me. People can compare you to someone or something, but as long as you don't allow yourself to compare yourself to something or someone, you will be fine, trust me.
-Don't let what others think of you, affect you. As long as you are happy, that's what matter the most, don't let others opinions take control over your life, over your happiness.
-Practice self care, in many shapes and forms, including but not limited to aromatherapy, some alone time, cooking, cleaning, organizing.
-Wear whatever you want, do whatever you want, you are the ruler of your life.
-Recognizing that everything is a social construct, and that even the wealthiest people on earth have issues.
-Think positive, be optimistic, focus on your self, spend time on yourself.
-Reflect on the people you know, the people you love, recognize that not everyone present in your friends and family are going to last forever, be always thoughtful, be always thankful, reflect love to those you love, share the love, share the happiness.
-Treat yourself like you treat others. If that doesn't work then you are treating others wrong.
-Recognize that happiness is not forever. But also having the self-mechanism in place to take care of yourself, when feeling sad.
-BE YOU. BE STRONG. BE KIND. BE LOVE. BE HAPPY.
XOXO
